Negative Calorie Shifting Detail

After reading so much about Calorie Shifting and an article about negative calorie theory in this website, you may wonder just what exactly is a negative calorie diet?

Well, have you ever watched TV shows or movies and thought it was so cliché that the main character was snacking on a celery stick to lose weight? Actually, snacking on celery is part of what is known as a negative calorie diet. That's because eating a 5-calorie stick of raw celery requires the body to use up more calories than the celery stick actually contains, which means the more you eat of it (or any a negative calorie food), the more you lose weight.

In truth, no food contains absolutely zero calories. However, a negative calorie diet maintains that certain “negative calorie foods” help you lose weight as these foods use more calories to digest than their actual calorie content, resulting in negative calories for the body. With this in mind, it's possible to actually eat your way to losing weight as long as you are consuming a balanced diet which includes negative calorie foods. In theory, the body has a more difficult time extracting calories from these types foods, resulting in less of the calories turning into fat.

How do you begin a negative calorie diet? By simply adjusting your meals, slowly cutting back on high fat, high calorie foods such as dairy, meat, and sugary foods. Start by incorporating the recommended daily allowance of 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day. Some negative calorie foods are asparagus, broccoli, beets, carrots, cucumber, garlic, lettuce, onions, spinach, and zucchini. With these foods, you can already make a flavorful, negative calorie salad! As for fruits, some negative calorie choices include apples, pineapples, oranges, peaches, berries such as blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and cranberries, and glycemic fruits such as mangoes, cantaloupes, and papayas.

By eating a negative calorie diet, your body will feel full and you will feel less of a need to eat non-healthful food choices such as junk food. Remember though to slowly transition into a negative calorie diet so as not to shock your body with immediate weight loss.
